Somebodies got a case of the Mondays!

Good Morning, It's been awhile since I had an opportunity to blog. I've been busy out in the field visiting Pest control companies and management companies, spreading the word about Nuisance Wildlife Relocation. I got a lot of good responses from everyone that I had an chance to meet with. Blogging is just about the only time I get sit look back on whats happened recently and to be honest, this year is hauling major butt! Well it's time get moving, have a great week.

Tuesday

Bats? Do you have any idea how expensive sealing your house for bats can be? Most people obviously don't. A bat can get into very small holes so as long as they can swoop in and land, you'd be amazed a what they can get into. Sealing a roof can be very time consuming, there's no room for error every hole must be sealed or they will continue to be a problem. A customer yesterday had just purchased his house in Sarasota and was not prepared to seal it for bats, so the quote really comes as a suprise. You should expect to spend thousands of dollars to get them out safely and seal the property. Check out more on bats @ www.tampabaybats.com

On the Road...

Good Morning, I spent Monday out on the road visiting some pest control companies in Largo and Port Richey. Pretty good feedback, as I've said before I love talking to people about what we do. Getting out in the field just feels productive to me. Have a great day!

Back at it

Happy Monday People! You've probably noticed the blogs are getting shorter and shorter. I haven't been in the the office as much which is a good thing. I like being in the field talking to the pest control companies and customers. We are in an interesting business and I enjoy talking about the services we provide. There's nothing ordinary about removing bats from soffit or a snake from a house. It's definitely a specialized trade that not just anyone can do. I hope this week brings some out of the ordinary and interesting adventures.

Living in fast forward

Boy, this week flew by didn't it? Friday again! Hopefully the weekend doesn't move quite so quickly. I don't think I've been more ready to unwind then I am right now. The good thing about a chill kind of weekend is that it gets your head right to deal with work every week. My job here at Nuisance Wildlife Relocation isn't necessarily stressful but a good weekend seems to spawn a good week. Hope everyone gets a chance to relax this weekend. See ya Monday!!!

A dangerous job but someones got to do it!!!

It's 11:00am in the middle of September and I'm on a job site to assist one of my technicians with an exclusion. The customer has had a rat problem for sometime and a raccoon had previously nested in the exterior soffit. Excluding a home for rats can be a tricky project. They can be very resourceful so anything larger than a quarter size hole must be filled or sealed. This includes vents on the roof, A/C chases, ridge vents, soffits, and gable ends. This can prove to be a very difficult task at times. Areas where the soffits meet the shingles can be tough to reach and the architecture on homes have become complicated to say the least. In some homes the gables and vents must be sealed from the inside of the attic with a thick gage metal screen in order to keep nuisance animals out and still allow proper ventilation. This particular job required my technician to replace roughly 40' of soffit including the "J" channel that holds the soffit in place. Although I have a lot of experience doing exclusions before I took the sales position, I have never replace an entire soffit before. I enjoy learning new skills so I opted for assisting my tech on this job so I could check it out. After speaking with the customer I decided to jump right on sealing the gable ends before my tech got going on the soffit. If you've never been in an attic in the middle of the day in Florida then you truly don't understand the meaning of HOT. This attic unfortunately was a extremely tight squeeze and provided very little ventilation. A sealed gable end looks much more appealing when sealed from the interior if possible so I set off into the attic to GIT-R-DONE. After entering the attic I realized how difficult it was going to be to reach one of the gable ends, unfortunately this epiphany came after I was half way in. I'm not usually claustrophobic but with practically no ventilation this attic was scorching, Pinned on my stomach and sweating profusely, I suddenly found myself fearing the worst. They would have to cut the ceiling out to get to me if I passed out and that really never enters your mind until your in this situation. Fortunately I was able to reach the gable end and seal it but I wasted no time getting out of that attic once it was complete. It took me about 15 minutes to regain composure after exiting that oven-like attic. I have been in quite few attics but never felt such heat before and I'm really not excited about doing it again any time soon. By 2 o'clock the soles of my techs tennis shoes were literally separating from the shoe due to the heat of the roof, I mean the glue was actually melting from the heat. It's really easy to get over heated in this situation and you can't drink too much water. I can't imagine a customer trying to do this by themselves but I guess that's why we have job. Hope your weekend rocks!

Wow!!!

It never fails to amaze me at how resource some wildlife can be. I'm mean really, it's mind boggling some of the places they can get in. Yesterday I had a call for a raccoon in the attic of a condominium in Sarasota. The maintenenace guy escorted me back to the building and there it was, 20' of soffit missing from a second story. The closest spot for the raccoon was several feet away from the hole. The had to first spot the hole from the ground which isn't exactly obvious and then climb the stairwell. Once on the second floor it had to climb the railing and then like a some kind of circus trapeze artist, swing itself from the gutter into the hole. A typical adult raccoon stands about 2' when fully erect. Although I haven't this particular one yet the maintenance guy said it was about 30lbs. I just find it crazy what this little animal is capable of. We're setting a ground trap today, I'm excited to see this Mcgvyer like Raccoon. This one should be part of Ringling Brothers Circus for sure! Have a great day!

FRIDAY!

Good Morning, I've been neglecting my blogging duties as of late. This week was a out of office kind of week. Hand delivering the September contest and newsletter to the local pest control companies really adds a personal touch I think. You really get a chance to get to know the people in related industries. I had alot of interesting conversations about Bees , Bats, and Raccoons. I also really tried to inform people about our Attic Restoration Division. Unfortunately some still reduce our industry to redneck trappers and that couldn't be further from the truth. Although we do trap wildlife and relocate them, we really strive to educate the public and eliminate the health risks of wildlife invasions. Rather than just "trapping that critter" lets repair the damage they've created and eliminate the potential for spreading disease by sanitizing the area they inhabited. The more will develop rural areas the more contact we're going to have with Wildlife. Well, have a great weekend!

Well, it's the last couple days and time to tie up all those loose ends. I'm finishing up Septembers contest, closing out Augusts referrals, and getting Septembers newsletter ready. It seems the companies been busy with a variety of calls for squirrels, rats, raccoon, and opossum. Well, I better get moving, talk at ya later!

It's a good day to "live"

This mornings office conversation here at Nuisance Wildlife Relocation started with our owner Jeff's near death accident on top of the skyway yesterday. Jeff's F250 was slammed up against the cement guard rail by another vehicle and boy thats along way down! That sparked a conversation about Skyway jumpers and when does life get so bad that you'd be willing to jump off that bridge?!?!?!? I think life is great and you gotta take the good with the bad. Here's the good... it's the weekend, business is better than the same time last year, and Jeff didn't clear the railing. Ya gotta love it! Have WILD weekend.

MCOC @ Port Manatee!

Yesterday I attended the MCOC Function at Port Manatee. It was a nice turn out, I got to see alot of familar faces from my days at the ROO in Down town Bradenton. Not a lot of businesses that I think will beneficial to us but I did answer a lot of questions about what we do. Traded a few business cards and did a bunch of hand shakin'. All in all it was enjoyable and any form of advertising I believe is beneficial. Have a great and extra WILD weekend!

Finally Friday!!!

There's just something about Fridays right? It just feels good! Even though your ready for the weekend, somehow you can still manage to get things done. Interesting week here at Nuisance Wildlife Relocation. Tena and I have been contacting pest control companies that we don't work with regularly, letting them know about our company and the service we provide. You be suprised how many in the pest control business are completely oblivious to our field. For most its welcomed and it gives them someone to turn to when the customer requiresa service they don't provide. Some companies just simply aren't interested in having anything to do with what we do which is suprising to say the least. Anyways here's to anyone who reads this, hope you have a fun, productive, and WILD weekend. See ya Monday!!!!!!

I guess thats it for today, don't forget to check out our website at floridawildlifetrapper.com

From the Windy City to the Sunshine State

Waaaazzzzz UP PEOPLE!!!!!
First day back from my vacation in Chi Town, not at all what I expected. Yes I knew it was a big city with lots of people but for some reason I thought it would be a lot of Chicago natives downtown. Not at all, it was definitely a tourist city. We even tried to get away from the major tour site seeing areas, off the beaten path. We were still surrounded by a sea of foreign languages. Despite not really getting to experience a large amount of local flavor, I great time with a lot of firsts. First time on a train, first time on the Chicago water taxi, first time eating authentic Chicago style pizza, first time having a combo (Italian sauage and beef), and my first time in a REALLY tall building. My favorite had to be the dive bar blues establishments, wow was that great! If you didn't all ready know I'm a musician and a huge fan of all music, especially the Blues. It was amazing! we got to see 4 truly great unsigned blues artists. It was another lesson in REAL music and artistry. I could go on for days about what experience in the Windy City but I think you should go experience it for your self. Well, back to reality here at Nuisance Wildlife Relocation. Time to get my nose back to the grindstone and catch some critters! Have wonderfully hot and WILD week!

Gotta Love a Holiday Week!!

Is it me or do people just seem to be in better spirits around the Holidays? July 4th has come and gone but it seems like everyone is still in good moods, so it should be a great weekend. Business is making a steady increase, as rainy season sets in it's sure to get crazy. Jeff has been doing knock out job on the website, lots of new information to check out. The Attic Restoration page looks really good and it has a lot of interesting and informative stuff. My favorite addition has to be the page dedicated to Bats. Man, boss you out did yourself on that one. If you get a chance to check out www.floridawildlifetrapper.com, definitely click on the the new links. Anyways, have a safe weekend and get a lil' on the WILD side for me!

Week 2

Good Morning People. It's the beginning of week 2 in my new position here at Nuisance Wildlife Relocation. It's been awhile since I have really been involved in marketing and promotions for anything other than my band, so it's taking a little bit to get wheels turning. There's alot of little things going at once like the referral contest, a letter going out to all the Florida's county school boards to notify them about our bird control program, letters to other trappers about our attic restoration. I have habit of just jumping into the deep end of the pool and I'm starting to wonder if there's any other way to live. Well, I better get jumping. Have a Great Monday!!

Contest

Good morning everyone, I spent the majority of yesterday visiting pest control companies in Sarasota County dropping off information about June's referral contest. I got tons of great feedback from my visits. The prize is a gift certificate for the person and a guest to spend an evening on the Marina Jack's Sunset Dinner Cruise. The contest is pretty basic, refer Nuisance Wildlife Relocation Inc. when one of their customers requires a service that we provide. Whomever gives the most referrals in the month of June will receive the prize. How easy is that? These are services that they don't provide. The customer gets information to the company that can service their need and the pest control company employee enters into the contest with an opportunity to enjoy a relaxing night out on a dinner boat. This is the first contest but we will be doing this each and every month. Wonder what the chances are of the employee taking me with them as their guest? Oh, come on, I need a relaxing time out on a dinner boat. Well I think the chances are pretty slim but I'm sure the person and their guest will enjoy themselves even if I can't go. Until tomorrow... Have a Wild one

The First... but certainly not the last!!!

  • So everyone has to have a first blog and I guess I'm no different. I'm kind of nervous this being my first time and all. Will the people reading this be gentle if I'm not doing it right at first? I feel like I have waited a long time for this moment for it to be perfect, waiting for it to feel right. I feel that i am now mature and responsible enough to handle the pressures that come with blogging. Will I blog too much? Maybe I won't blog enough and people will lose interest in the way I blog. Will I be good at blogging? Alright Alright enough messing around. These particular blogs will be based around my chosen profession which is in the field of trapping. I work for a company called Nuisance Wildlife Relocation. We specialize in dealing with nuisance animals. The trapping, removal, relocation and sometimes eradication (rats) as well as the prevention, repair and clean up that these animals cause. We pick up where the pest control companies and city animal control leave off. Who do you call when there's a Raccoon nesting your attic? How about when a track team of squirrels are doing relay races in your attic right over your head when your preparing for bed? Yep, That's us! Not to mention snakes, rats, opossum, armadillos, bees & wasps, wild hogs, ducks, birds, moles and just about anything else that's annoying you or damaging your property. No, I'm sorry, you will have to deal that Nuisance neighbor on your own though. Occasionally I will drop a line or two in about about my hobbies which include playing with my country and southern rock band "The Git 'R Dunz" but I will try to keep it to a minimum. Wow, My 1st blog. I thought with my nervousness and excitement that it wouldn't be this long but I surprised myself. Who knows, I might even become skilled at blogging. Until next time, stay nuisance free!
